 SAN DIEGO—San Diego opens up the WCC Championship Tournament against Santa Clara on Thursday at 2 p.m. PT.
 
The Toreros (9-20, 2-16 WCC) begin their postseason journey against the seventh-seeded Broncos (13-16, 6-12 WCC) after going 1-1 in the final weekend series of the regular season. USD comes into the tournament as the tenth seed.

LAST TIME OUT
•Madison Pollock scored a career-high 27 points and Patricia Brossmann recorded her 10th double-double of the season in a 77-68 loss to Santa Clara.
 
•The Toreros led the majority of the first quarter and trailed by just one point, 32-33, at halftime but the Broncos outscored USD 26-16 in the third quarter to separate from San Diego in the second half.
 
•In addition to Pollock's game-high 27 points, Brossmann and Kiera Oakry also reached double-digit scoring. Brossmann finished with 16 points including 6-of-7 from the free-throw line and led the team in rebounds (10) and assists (5). Oakry added 10 points off the bench for the Toreros.
 
•The Toreros came out hot, shooting 53 percent (9-of-17) in the first period led by eight points apiece from Pollock and Brossmann. USD dominated inside, scoring 18 of their 20 points in the paint to take a one-point lead 20-19 at the first break.
 
•The teams traded the lead in the second period and the Broncos held a slim 33-32 advantage at halftime but outscored San Diego 26-16 in the third quarter, stretching their lead to as many as 13 points in the period. 
 
•San Diego's offense cooled off in the second half, shooting 29 percent (8-of-28) but the Toreros were solid from the free-throw line, hitting 20-of-24 down the stretch.
 
•Pollock hit two free-throws with 45 seconds left and the Toreros cut the Broncos' lead to six but USD was unable to complete the comeback.
 
•Sydney Hunter scored a career-high 21 points as San Diego defeated San Francisco, 66-59, on Senior Day at the JCP.
 
•Hunter hit 7-of-9 from the field and 7-of-11 from the free-throw line to lead San Diego and added seven rebounds, while Leticia Soares and Madison Pollock tallied 12 and 11 points respectively.
 
•Brossmann and Shepard each chipped in eight points, while Brossmann added seven rebounds and a team-high three steals. On her senior day, Shepard went 2-for-6 from three-point range and led the team with seven assists.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST SANTA CLARA
• The Toreros lead the all-time series 41-35 over the Broncos. USD split the series this season 1-1, taking the first contest with a 57-49 comeback victory on Dec. 31 before falling 77-68 on Feb. 28.
 
SETTING NEW HIGHS
• Three Toreros set new career-highs for scoring in the final three games of the regular season. Patricia Brossmann scored 24 points against BYU (Feb. 23), Madison Pollock scored 27 against Santa Clara (Feb. 28) and Sydney Hunter recorded 21 points against San Francisco (Mar. 2).
 
NOTEABLE ABSENCES 
• San Diego suffered multiple injuries at the midpoint this season and is currently without starting guard Myah Pace, as well as Ana Ramos and Karla Martínez. This is in addition to season-ending injuries suffered by Kat Olczak, Nicole Blakes and Kendall Bird early in the season.
 
LEADING THE WAY
• Patricia Brossmann leads the team in points (11.3 avg), rebounds (7.6 avg), steals (1.3 avg) and has a team-high ten double-doubles this season which ranks second in the WCC. Brossmann currently ranks fifth in the WCC in rebounding and second in offensive rebounds (3.0 avg). She also ranks ninth in field-goal percentage (48.4).
 
• Madison Pollock is currently averaging 11.1 points per game which ranks second for the Toreros and is also second on the team in rebounds, averaging 6.1 per game to rank 12th in the conference. 
 
• Sydney Shepard leads the Toreros from beyond the arc with a 31.4 three-point field-goal percentage, averaging 1.8 per game to rank seventh in the WCC. Shepard also leads the team in assists, averaging 3.6 per game to rank 10th in the conference. 
 
• Leticia Soares currently ranks eighth in the conference with a 50.7 field-goal percentage and is averaging 10.2 points per game.
