Box Score SAN DIEGO—San Diego held off a late comeback to defeat California Baptist, 5-4, on Tuesday night at Fowler Park.

In their final game of the regular season, the Toreros (32-21) held a 5-2 lead heading into the seventh inning. The Lancers (33-19) rallied to score on a 2-RBI double with two outs to make it a one-run game.

CBU threatened again in the ninth, getting the first two Lancers aboard with no outs.
Nathan Walker collected back-to-back strikeouts before a 3-2 pitch landed inside to load the bases. A ground ball to
Ripken Reyes at third provided the final out to hold off the Lancers and seal the victory for USD.Â

Jordan Abushahla finished the day 2-for-3 with a walk and scored twice for the Toreros.
Adam Kerner went 3-for-5 with one run and
Cody Jefferis went 2-for-5 including an RBI double and a run.

San Diego got on the board early when
Stephen Dubb scored Jefferis on a groundout to short in the bottom of the first inning.
Max Jung-Goldberg followed with an RBI single, scoring
Kevin Collard from third to put the Toreros up, 2-0.

The Lancers answered quickly, scoring on a USD fielding error in the top of the second but Jefferis sent a double down the left field line to add to the Torero lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the inning.

The Toreros stretched their lead, adding a run in the fifth and sixth on a sacrifice flyout from
Preston Miller and an RBI single from Kerner to make it 5-2 before the Lancers began to rally.

Jake Miller got the start for USD on the mound, pitching 2.0 innings and giving up one run (unearned) on three hits and two walks.
Cade Brown (2-1) was credited with the win after coming on in the third inning and allowing one run on two hits, one walk and one strikeout in 2.0 innings of work.

Walker earned his second save of the season after dealing two strikeouts, with one hit and two walks in the ninth to secure the win and the season series over the Lancers, 2-0.
