PORTLAND—Thana Fayad recorded her second double-double of the season and San Diego swept Portland 3-0 on Thursday night at the Chiles Center.

The Toreros (8-4, 1-0 WCC) hit .245 as a team to take down the Pilots (8-4, 0-1 WCC) in straight sets, 25-18, 25-18, 25-11, to open WCC play.

Fayad (.242) paced USD with 13 kills and 11 digs, adding two blocks and two aces.
Katie Lukes also reached double-digits, hitting .368 and finishing with 10 kills, six of which came in the third set.Â

Grace Frohling collected four blocks (1 solo) and added seven kills, hitting at a .375 clip.
Megan Jacobsen was also strong at the net, tallying four blocks. As a team, the Toreros collected 8.0 blocks compared to 7.0 from the Pilots.

San Diego was tough at the service line, registering seven aces, while the Pilots registered one.
Anna Newsome collected a career-high four aces, adding 17 assists and seven digs.Â

Annie Benbow also reached double-digits with 10 digs on the night and USD out-dug the Pilots, 48-38 in the back court.

The Toreros jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in set one, but the Pilots closed within two, 7-5. USD then went on an 8-1 run, led by strong serving from Newsome and kills from Lukes, Frohling and Turner, to build a comfortable 15-6 lead.Â

San Diego maintained a three-point lead down the stretch and closed the set with four-straight points to take the first set 25-18.

USD led the second frame from start to finish after taking the lead, 7-2. The Toreros limited the Pilots to a .030 hitting percentage with four team blocks. Fayad collected eight kills in the set, including set-point 25-18.

 The teams traded points to a 4-4 tie to begin the third set. A kill from Lukes, followed by an ace from Fayad gave the Toreros the lead, 6-4. Back-to-back kills from Lukes gave USD some breathing room at, 8-5.

USD strung together nine consecutive points, including two more kills from Lukes to extend its lead, 17-6, and never looked back, taking the final set 25-11.

It's the seventh sweep of the season for San Diego.
