The Toreros will travel to Lake Elsinore

SAN DIEGO - The Toreros (2-2) will travel to Lake Elsinore, Calif. this week for a slate of four games at the Golden State Classic for their second tournament of the 2020 season.

The Toreros will face Portland State (1-4) and Seton Hall (2-2) on Friday, before matchups against Utah State (1-4) and LIU (2-3) on Saturday morning.

LAST TIME OUT
  • San Diego softball notched out two wins at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Classic, before the second contest against Cal Poly was canceled due to rain on Sunday afternoon.
  • The Toreros opened the 2020 season with a decisive 6-0 victory over Cal State-Bakersfield. Heller earned the shutout in the circle, and Sophia Bjerk led the Toreros at the plate going 2-for-2 with a double, home run, a walk and two RBIs.
  • Heller compiled eight strikeouts against the Roadrunners and repeated the performance on Saturday in a 2-1 loss against Pittsburgh. The senior right hander gave up two runs on six hits and two walks.
  • San Diego rallied after the early morning loss to the Panthers to beat Cal Poly 4-3. Sophomore Kelli Kufta scored the game winning run, executing a bunt attempt to give San Diego the lead in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Madison Casiano was also potent at the plate in two contests, hitting .500 against Pitt and No. 4 UCLA with the sole RBIs in both games.
  • Against No. 4 UCLA, the Toreros put themselves within striking distance early in the contest before the Bruins notched 15 hits off San Diego pitching to win the game 9-1 in five innings.

ALL-TIME SERIES NOTES
  • Portland State holds advantage in the all-time series as San Diego is behind six games at 13-19. On neutral sites, the Vikings and the Toreros are split even at one a piece.
  • Friday's 2 p.m. (PT) contest against Seton Hall will mark the first between the two programs.
  • The Toreros own the all-time series against Utah State at 5-1. San Diego will look to snap a two-game losing streak, after Utah State beat the Toreros in run-rule fashion in 2017 and 2019.
  • San Diego will also face LIU for the first time in program history with a matchup at 11:30 a.m. (PT) on Saturday.
