Ricketts hit the game winner in the 10th to secure the 4-3 win over Monmouth

SAN DIEGO—San Diego fought back from a 3-0 deficit in the eighth inning to win in thrilling fashion, rallying to earn a 4-3 walk-off victory in the 10th inning over Monmouth on Saturday afternoon.

The Toreros (8-2) were led by Caleb Ricketts, who went 3-for-5 on the day with two RBIs, including the game-winner. Shane McGuire furnished a noteworthy performance as well, with a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth.

Conner Thurman (4-0) got the win out of the bullpen for USD and the Toreros took a 2-0 lead in the series. The right-hander went two shutout innings, giving up two hits, no walks and striking out four. Kohl Simas also pitched well, going three innings, surrendering one run on two hits, walking none and striking out five.

The Toreros were trailing 3-0 in the eighth inning before they finally broke through. USD scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by the two-RBI double from McGuire who came in as a pinch hitter with two outs and the bases loaded.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the tenth, when San Diego walked it off on an RBI single off the bat of Ricketts to score Adam Kerner easily from third.

The Toreros will conclude their weekend series with Monmouth on Sunday at 11 a.m. PT at Fowler Park. The game time was moved up from its original 1 p.m. start in anticipation of inclement weather.
