RENO, NV – After taking a 16-point lead at halftime, the San Diego men's basketball team (2-0) held on to defeat Nevada (1-1) on the road Friday, 75-68.
Senior guard
Jase Townsend led the team with 18 points and added four assists and three rebounds.
Graduate center
Terrell Brown-Soares ended with 16 points (8-14 FG), eight rebounds and seven blocks. He registered the second most blocks in a single game in program history.
Senior forward
Marcellus Earlington scored in double-figures once again, netting 10 points to go along with five boards.
San Diego improves to 2-0 on the season, and will travel to Cal on Monday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Brown-Soares set the tone early in the first half, scoring the first four points and swatting a Nevada shot in the first four possessions of the game.
- Townsend gave USD a 12-8 lead with eight straight points, including an and-one drive, a layup, and a triple.
- Brown-Soares blocked five shots in the first 12:22 of the first half.
- A layup from Pinchuk and a three-pointer from Berger put USD up 34-25. The run got up to 21-4 after a triple from Bryce Monroe.
- At halftime, San Diego led 48-32. The Toreros shot a scorching 57.6% (19-33) from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
- Nevada scored the first 15 points of the second half to cut the deficit to two. Berger ended the run with another triple.
- After the Wolfpack tied the game, a three-point play from Townsend and a jumper from Earlington later put USD back up by seven.
- Nevada cut the deficit to four with 2:11 remaining. Neither team scored again until 33.3 seconds, when Monroe hit two clutch free throws with to put USD up 72-66.

USD will remain on the road to face Cal on Monday night. The Golden Bears have a slight 2-1 advantage in the all-time series. The team last met during the 2006-07 season, when USD earned a 72-67 win.
