Toreros Take on Waves in Season Opener

San Diego will take on Pepperdine in nonconference matchup on Friday

SAN DIEGO - San Diego women's soccer begins the 2021 spring campaign with a nonconference match against Pepperdine (0-1) at home on Friday, Feb. 12th. Friday's nonconference match is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Torero Stadium.

Due to current state and county guidelines, fans will not be permitted inside Torero Stadium. Fans can tune into Friday's game by tuning into the WCC Network or following along with live statistics coverage on USDToreros.com. 

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros are coming off of a season in which they finished 8-9-1 and 4-5 in the WCC. 
  • San Diego capped off the 2019 campaign with a 1-0 victory at Portland.

GRADUATING THE GREATS
  • San Diego will be without the all-time career saves leader and 2019 WCC Goalkeeper of the Year Amber Michel due to graduation. 
  • Top scorer Milan Moses also graduated from last season's squad. Moses scored nine times for the Toreros last season, with two being game winners.

RETURNING TO THE PITCH
  • Sophomore midfielder Eden Quiroz will continue to be a threat for San Diego as the All-WCC freshman team selection returns for USD. Quiroz started and played in every game last season, chipping in with one goal and one assist.
  • San Diego is returning three other players that started at least 10 games last season in Sami Fairweather (18 games), Malia Walencewicz (15 games), and Bekah Valdez (12 games).

SCOUTING THE WAVES
  • Pepperdine gave up three first half goals against UCLA en route to a season opening defeat. The Waves recorded 13 shots with 7 on target in the loss.
  • The Toreros are 10-15-2 in the all-time series against the Waves, with Pepperdine winning the previous four matches.
