Toreros to Face Saint Mary's in Season Finale

San Diego will travel north to Moraga

SAN DIEGO - San Diego softball (11-28, 3-9 WCC) will conclude the regular season on the road at Saint Mary's (11-20, 2-4 WCC). Series action will get underway on Saturday, May 8 at noon and 2:30 p.m. (PT) with game three set for Sunday, May 9 at 11 a.m. (PT).
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros fought back after an extra-innings battle to take game two against Santa Clara, before falling in game three 2-9.
  • The offense immediately responded in game two, taking an early 1-0 lead and never surrendering the advantage on the way to a 3-2 victory.
  • McKenna Braegelmann pitched her second complete game of the year going seven innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits, allowing one walk while striking out four.
  • Freshman Amanda Limon paced San Diego at the plate going 1-for-2 in game two with a walk and an RBI.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST THE GAELS
  • Saint Mary's leads the all-time series against USD at 69-46.
  • The Toreros trail in every category against the Gaels and are 19-31 on the road all-time.
  • During the 2019 campaign, San Diego fell in games one and two at Saint Mary's and rebounded to take game three 2-1.
 
FINDING WINS ON THE ROAD
  • San Diego is facing a losing streak on the road during the 2021 campaign and will look to generate their first victory since March 21 away from the USD Softball Complex.
  • Over the past four seasons, San Diego is 13-33 on the road with the most victories coming during the 2018 campaign. The Toreros finished the 2018 season 8-10 in road contests.
 
EXTRA BASES
  • The Toreros recorded multiple-extra base hits during the series with Santa Clara as Lauren Hendrickson notched two doubles in game three and Sophia Bjerk slugged a double in game one.
  • Bjerk leads the team in doubles with six on the year so far as Rion Simms ranks right behind her fellow veteran with five.
  • On the year, USD has seven games with more than one double and three with two or more extra base hits.
  • 11 different players have recorded at least one extra base hit on the year, which has been crucial to the Toreros offensive success as the team has recorded at least one extra base hit in seven victories.
  • San Diego has also relied on stolen bases to charge the offense as the team is 37-for-48 in stolen bases on the year.
  • Alexia Torculas, Sofia Delgado and Halle Kyler account for 28 of the squad's 37 stolen bases.
 
OFFENSIVE BRIGHT SPOTS
  • Limon and Bjerk have emerged in the starting lineup as the offensive brightspots ranking first and second on the team in batting average.
  • Limon has found her rhythm after a hot start to her freshman season, stringing together a six-game hitting streak from April 23 to May 1.
  • Bjerk leads the team in slugging percentage at .385 on the year and is tied with Limon for the highest on base percentage at .347
  • Senior Kyler has also played an integral role in the lineup as she leads the team in sacrifice bunts on the year with 10
 
IN THE CIRCLE
  • Braegelmann and Earnshaw continue to lead the pitching staff in ERA at 1.96 and 2.94 respectively.
  • The freshman currently ranks third among WCC pitchers in ERA and fifth in wins with six.
  • She has the lowest batting average against on San Diego's staff limiting opponents to only .190
  • Earnshaw has been a workhorse for San Diego, pitching over 100 innings so far with 20 appearances on the year
  • The veteran right hander has pitched the most complete games (9) and leads the team in strikeouts (58).
