Golf Wins Saint Mary's Invitational

Rauch leads Toreros with second-place finish as Toreros pace 16-team field at Poppy Hills Golf Club

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — A second-place finish from graduate student David Rauch led San Diego golf to a dominant win on Wednesday evening at Poppy Hills Golf Club (Par 71, 7,091 yards), placing the Toreros first out of 16 teams as part of the Saint Mary's Invitational.

USD combined for rounds of 275, 287, and 283 strokes for a total of 845 that was -7 and 16 shots ahead of of second-place finisher Colorado State.

Rauch, a transfer from UNLV, carded rounds of 69, 67, and 71 for a total of 207 strokes that had him just one shot out of first place at -6. He was closely followed by Carson Enright, a fellow transfer who joined USD from Oregon State in the off-season. Enright shot a one-under 212 (67, 74, 71) to place tied for fourth in the event.

Redshirt senior Evan Kawai and junior Andi Xu were next in a tie for ninth place, each setting forth one-over 214s with rounds of 71, 74, and 79 and 68, 74, and 72 strokes, respectively.

Redshirt senior Harrison Kingsley rounded out San Diego's quintet of Top-15 finishes by placing tied for 12th with a two-over 215 (71, 72, 72).

Freshman Kevin An was +10 with rounds of 71, 78, and 74 (223) as he competed as an individual, good for a finish at T-41.

Wednesday's win marks the Toreros' first team victory since October 26, 2021, when San Diego placed first out of 15 teams at the Hoakalei Country Club Invitational in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Rauch's second-place finish is the best by a USD golfer since Xu also placed second at the USF Intercollegiate at The Olympic Club in San Francisco on September 13.
