San Diego Softball Overcame 4-1 Deficit to Beat South Dakota State in Extra Innings

Toreros defeated South Dakota State 6-5 in the eighth inning

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN DIEGO — The Toreros (5-3) beat South Dakota State (5-4) 6-5 in eight innings after overcoming a 4-1 deficit at the bottom of the seventh. Following their previous win, the Toreros fell short to Iowa (6-2) 3-1.

GAME 1 | USD 6, SDSU 5
  • Courtney Rose started in the circle for the Toreros. 
  • Courtney Rose struck out three batters in a row at the top of the third inning. 
  • At the top of the fourth, the bases were loaded and Madison Earnshaw struck out the batter for the third out. 
  • Sofia Delgado hits a double to send Clareese Santiago to score from first base at the bottom of the fourth. 
  • AJ Kaiser hits a double to send Delgado home at the bottom of the seventh. San Diego trails 4-2.
  • Sophia Bjerk hits a sacrifice fly and Mikayln Emanuelli tags up and scores, 4-3, at the bottom of the seventh. 
  • Alexia Torculas forced extra innings by reaching first on a fielding error to send Bjerk home to make it a tie game, 4-4, at the bottom of the seventh!
  • Noelle Hee singles to left center to send Joecellia Roberts to score and tie the game, 5-5, at the bottom of the eighth. 
  • Malia Benson singled to right field and sent Sofia Delgado to score and win the game at the bottom of the eighth!
  • The Toreros won with a final score of 6-5 to close the 8th inning!
