Toreros Softball Triumphs Over Sam Houston 7-6 in 11 Innings

San Diego finishes 1-1 in the first day of the Triple Crown OKC Tournament

NORMAN, OK— The Toreros defeated Sam Houston 7-6 in 11 innings to begin tournament play. Following their tremendous victory, San Diego fell short to Iowa 6-4 to end the day.

Madison Earnshaw started in the circle for the Toreros.
In the bottom of the third, Izzy Owen hit a homerun to left center! Owen sent Alexia Torculas home to put San Diego in the lead, 2-1.
Malia Benson singled through the right side in the bottom of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Amanda Limon and Alexia Torculas singled up the middle.
Izzy Owen singled to second base in the bottom of the fifth.
In the bottom of the sixth, Arisa Tovar singled to right center.
Joecellia Roberts doubled to left field and Noelle Hee singled to right field to start off the bottom of the seventh.
In the bottom of the seventh, Sofia Delgado singled through the right side and sent Joecellia Roberts to score! San Diego trails 5-3.
Clareese Santiago singled through the right side to send Sofia Delgado and Noelle Hee home! It's a tie ballgame at 5-5 in the bottom of the seventh.
Courtney Rose replaced Madison Earnshaw in the circle at the top of the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth, Izzy Owen singled to the pitcher.
Arisa Tovar singled through the left side in the bottom of the tenth.
In the bottom of the tenth, Alexia Torculas singled to left field. The score remains the same 5-5.
Lauren Hendrickson doubled to left center in the bottom of the eleventh and sent Noelle Hee and Izzy Owen to score! San Diego wins 7-6

Madison Earnshaw struck out nine batters and allowed only five runs and nine hits in seven innings pitched.

Sofia Delgado reached first on an error at shortstop which sent Joecellia Roberts to score in the top of the seventh. San Diego trails 6-1.
Clareese Santiago doubled which sent Noelle Hee and Sofia Delgado home to score! San Diego trails 6-3 in the top of the seventh.
In the top of the seventh, Malia Benson singled and drove Clareese Santiago home to score! San Diego concludes the game with a final score of 6-4.

The Toreros continue to compete in the Triple Crown Classic tournament against Houston and #1 Oklahoma. San Diego will battle Houston on Saturday, March 19 at 9 AM PT and #1 Oklahoma at 11:30 AM PT. The Toreros hold an all time record of 1-1 against Houston with their most recent contest on March 9, 2019 resulting in a 6-5 loss in eight innings. This is the first time San Diego will compete against #1 Oklahoma in program history.
