SACRAMENTO — San Diego women's rowing placed third at the West Coast Conference Rowing Championships on Saturday morning, with the USD 2V4 capturing silver and the remainder of the Torero boats capturing bronze before senior Isla Blake and redshirt sophomore Caitlin Burns earned All-WCC honors.

"I'm really proud of the team and how they fought not only through this regatta, but this year," head coach Stesha Carle said after the event. "I thought each boat had some strong highlights, especially when it came to race execution. We're excited to see the entire WCC get faster. Hats off to Gonzaga for a strong showing."

The San Diego 2V4 had a put together a strong starting 250m and began the early segments of the race in first place. The boat continued to fight through its race, chasing the lead boat before it pushed away from others to finish with silver.

USD's 1V4 suffered a rough starting 250m and was down early in the race. The group remained calm and confident as they fought back after being down at the start. The boat maintained a strong and consistent base rhythm that allowed them to walk through other crews and score a bronze medal.

The Torero 2V8 had a strong race all the way through as it fought with LMU from the beginning to the end. Although the boat took third, it never gave up an inch as it held tight with the Lions throughout the entire race. 

San Diego's 1V8 had a race it should be proud of as it closed its margin off of Gonzaga by five seconds since the last time it raced them. The energy of the boat allowed them to stay competitive and fight all the way through, landing them a bronze medal.

The WCC accolades marked Blake's fourth after being selected to the 2022 All-WCC Preseason Rowing Team, the 2021 Women's Rowing All-WCC First Team, and earning two WCC All-Academic Honorable Mentions.

For Burns, it was her second after being named to the 2022 All-WCC Preseason Rowing Team earlier this season and being named a WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention last season.
