SAN DIEGO — A win in the 50 Yard freestyle from
Gigi Zinis on Friday afternoon at the USD Sports Center Pool headlined San Diego swimming and diving's efforts as it took on Utah Tech.
Zinis finished the race with a time of 24.11, beating out 10 other swimmers for the top spot.
Seven Toreros earned second-place finishes on Friday, including
Amber Paul (100 Yard Butterfly),
Skylar Bruner (1650 Yard Freestyle, 200 Yard Backstroke, and 500 Yard Freestyle),
Milan Bever (200 Yard Freestyle),
Claire Sheerin (200 Yard IM),
Elise Sullivan (200 Yard Breaststroke),
Anna Vermeulen (200 Yard Butterfly) and
Jayne Brandt, who was just behind Zinis in the 50 Yard Freestyle.
Andie Daignault, (100 Yard Backstroke),
Elise Sullivan (100 Yard Breaststroke),
Jayne Brandt (100 Yard Freestyle),
Claire Sheerin (200 Yard Butterfly) all notched third-place finishes.
USD finished third in its lone relay race of the day after
Andie Daignault,
Ashley Savoie,
Chloe Howell, and
Sasha Ganem recorded a time of 3:43.93 in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay.
Jane Riehs won both of the afternoon's diving events, taking home a combined 18 points across two 1 Meter Dive competitions.
The Toreros are back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they head north to Malibu to take part in the Pepperdine Invite.
