MALIBU, Calif. – The San Diego cross country program completed their run at the WCC Championship on Saturday, racing at Alumni Park in the annual event hosted by Pepperdine.  Â
Â
Both the men and women ultimately placed eighth in their respective fields.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The women's team opened up the day, as they followed a typical strategy of building as the race went on.
- The Toreros were once again led by Daniella Hubble, who paced the group with a top-50 finish at 42nd overall.
- Hubble largely ran alongside her teammates – Aryam Jaimes and Gianna Sbarbaro who finished not far behind in 45th and 48th place.
- The men followed shortly thereafter, where Will Stefanou led the way with a 55th place finish.
- Russell Gokemeijer continued his strong season by following Stefanou with a 59th place finish.
Â
TORERO TIDBITS
- Hubble earned the best finish by a Torero since Sbarbaro took 36th at the Oct. 2021 WCC Championship.
- It was also the first time the Toreros have finished with three in the top-50 on the women's side since the Feb. 2021 WCC Championship.
- Stefanou led the Torero men for the first time this season, after each previous race had been led by Gokemeijer.
Â
The Toreros are back in action on Nov. 10, competing in the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento, Calif.
