SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (1-10, 0-0 WCC) will make one of their shortest road trips of the season, traveling down the road to face UC San Diego (6-4, 0-0 Big West) on Monday at 5 p.m., at Triton Softball Stadium.
LAST TIME OUT
- San Diego completed action at the Torero Classic over the weekend, playing games against Boise State, FDU, Utah Tech and Wichita State.
- Izzy Owen turned in another strong week with the bat, reaching base multiple times against Boise State and Wichita State, while driving in runs against FDU and Utah Tech.
- Courtney Rose also delivered a terrific bounce back weekend, turning in a 1.08 ERA over three games, headlined by five scoreless innings of relief against Utah Tech.
OPPONENT HISTORY
- San Diego is 42-29 all-time against their neighborhood rival and have won the last two meetings.
- The Toreros earned a 4-2 win over the Tritons during fall ball this offseason, with Ashley Daugherty throwing five scoreless innings in the circle and Owen, Alyssa Hernandez and Arisa Tovar each picking up RBI.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
- The Toreros are wrapping up a stretch of five straight games in the city of San Diego, after the first seven came on the road.
- Tovar has had clutch moments early in this season and had her own big moment the last time these two teams met in the regular season, walking-off with an RBI single to defeat the Tritons in extra innings on Mar. 30, 2022.
- San Diego's infield has quickly become a leading unit for the team, as Owen, EJ Joyner, Amanda Limon and Taylor Johnson have started all 11 games alongside each other and are the team's top-four in batting average.
TORERO TIDBITS
- Madison Earnshaw (271) is in a tie for ninth all-time in strikeouts at San Diego with Amy Lopez. Next up on the list is Christina Haake (272).
- Owen is off to a sizzling start with the bat, leading the WCC in hits with 14 and ranking third in the league in batting average (.438).
- Joecellia Roberts has begun to find her swing, hitting .267 with four RBI this week and now leads the team in RBI.
