SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (0-0, 0-0 WCC) is set to open the 2023 season in and around the Los Angeles, Calif. area, competing at the Stacy Winsberg/Easton Tournaments from Feb. 10-12 against California, Cal State Fullerton and No. 2 UCLA.

OPPONENT HISTORY

• San Diego is 1-2 all-time against California, but won the last meeting in a 5-4, eight inning thriller on Mar. 5, 2022.
• The Toreros are 3-11 all-time against the Titans and are seeking their first win in Fullerton, Calif. since 2002.
• The Toreros are 0-12 all-time against UCLA. San Diego lost the last meeting 8-1 in Los Angeles on Apr. 19, 2022.

 
WHAT TO WATCH FOR

• The Toreros return all four All-WCC honorees from last season, led by All-WCC Second Team infielder Izzy Owen and pitcher Courtney Rose.
• Joecellia Roberts and Alexia Torculas, who were All-WCC Honorable Mention in 2022, are also back, with Torculas being named to the All-WCC Preseason Team on Feb. 7.
• Nine newcomers join the Toreros this season, including transfer Alyssa Hernandez and eight freshmen – Lauren Asia, Emma Giaime, Shawnese Hogue-Lacy, Taylor Johnson, EJ Joyner, Natalie McCliman, Carly Ruiz and Kelsey Tadlock.
• Hernandez will get an immediate crack at her old team, facing Cal State Fullerton on Feb. 11. The junior hit .246 with three home runs and 33 RBI as a Titan.

• Madison Earnshaw (260) ranks 10th all-time in strikeouts at San Diego and needs 11 to match Amy Lopez for ninth all-time.
• Owen (98) is just two hits away from 100 in her collegiate career.
• Amanda Limon (95) is just five games and starts away from 100 in her collegiate career.
