SAN DIEGO – San Diego men's soccer fifth-year midfielder
Mason Tunbridge has been named a midfielder to watch by the United Soccer Coaches, as the organization announced on Friday.
Â
Tunbridge was one of 25 midfielders across NCAA Division I selected to the list that recognized some of the best returning players in the nation. Tunbridge is one of just two WCC midfielders on the list, joining Portland's Sebastian Nava.
Â
A native of London, England, Tunbridge is coming off a wildly successful 2022 season, where he was named first team All-West Region and first team All-WCC. Tunbridge led the Toreros with 17 points, scoring six goals and adding five assists.
Â
Tunbridge was one of the top players in the WCC all season, leading the Toreros in their return to the NCAA Tournament. Tunbridge tallied at least one point in four of the last six games of the season and recorded a hat trick in a win over Cal Poly back on Sept. 24, 2022.
Â
The Toreros are set for their first exhibition on Tuesday, Aug. 15 against UNLV. Tunbridge and the Toreros open the 2023 season at Seattle on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 4 p.m.
