CORVALLIS, Ore. — A game-high 14 kills while hitting .308 from
Nemo Beach led San Diego volleyball (16-8, 11-3 WCC) to a 3-1 win over Oregon State (8-16, 6-7 WCC) on Saturday afternoon at Gill Coliseum.
Beach's big performance helped USD overcome a 25-22 defeat in the match's opening frame. The Toreros won the final three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-22 to secure their third win in a row and their 16th victory in their last 21 contests.
San Diego was tied 8-8 with OSU in the second period before a service ace from
Madi Allen capped a mid-set surge that gave it a lead it did not relinquish as it knotted the match 1-1.
The Beavers were within one, 17-16, late in the third set, but USD closed the frame on a 3-0 run via kills from
Isabel Clark,
Kylie Munday, and
Kristen Erland to take the lead, two matches to one.
USD led early on in Saturday's fourth and final frame, then allowed Oregon State to pull ahead 11-9 on a Torero service error and a Beaver combo block. Kills from Beach, Clark, and Erland and a combo block by Stoner and Clark kept San Diego neck-and-neck as the set neared its midpoint, then Clark found her mark again to help USD build a late lead. Clark and Erland teamed up on a combo block to seal the match's final point and send the Toreros back to San Diego with a pair of West Coast Conference wins.
