Toreros Welcome Harvard for Tuesday Doubleheader

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (6-20, 0-0 WCC) is back home for a midweek doubleheader, hosting Harvard (8-6, 0-0 Ivy) on Tuesday at 3 p.m., and 5:30 p.m., at the USD Softball Complex.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros dropped a pair of games to conclude the Bulldog Classic, falling 8-6 to Nevada and 10-2 to Fresno State.
  • Several players continued to shine on the offensive end, as Taylor Johnson hit .438 with two RBI, three walks and a double, while Carly Ruiz also shined, with a career-high three RBI against Nevada.
  • Joecellia Roberts also tacked on four RBI and a 3-for-4 game against Fresno State.

OPPONENT HISTORY
  • San Diego is 6-2-1 all-time against Harvard and are hosting the Crimson for a doubleheader for the second straight year.
  • In last season's doubleheader, Roberts delivered a walk-off home run in game one, before the two teams tied in game two due to inclement weather and travel considerations.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Tele Jennings (eight) and Johnson (eight) both stand at the top of the single-season doubles leaders through the first 26 games of the season. The program record in a single season is 18, set by Lindsey Fleet in 2008.
  • Roberts became the first Torero to 10 RBI, doing it in just 15 games. She didn't reach that mark until Mar. 14 of last season.
  • The Toreros freshman class continues to roll in their first few weeks in college softball.
  • Jennings leads the team in doubles, runs scored (11), extra-base hits (eight) and walks (11) while Delgado ranks in the top-three on the team in RBI and leads the team in stolen bases (five) this season.
  • The Torero outfield has developed a strong reputation on defense this season, as Jennings, Mikalyn Emanuelli and Ruiz have a combined eight outfield assists after just one combined assist by Torero outfielder's last season.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • Courtney Rose stands at 287 strikeouts and needs 24 to match Colleen Norman for sixth on the Toreros all-time strikeout list.
  • In addition, Rose stands in fifth on the Toreros all-time appearances list (111) and needs one more to match Madison Earnshaw (112) for fourth.
  • San Diego leads the WCC in doubles (30) and ranks 74th nationally.
  • In addition, Jennings and Johnson lead the conference and ranks 37th nationally in doubles (eight).
  • Arisa Tovar (six) and Shawnese Hogue-Lacy (five) rank first and second in the WCC in runners caught stealing. Tovar stands at 33rd nationally, while Hogue-Lacy ranks 57th.
