Softball Hosts Arizona State for Wednesday Doubleheader

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (9-25, 0-0 WCC) will play host to a PAC-12 foe, welcoming Arizona State (17-14, 2-7 PAC-12) for a doubleheader on Wednesday at 12 p.m., and 2:30 p.m., at the USD Softball Complex
 
LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros earned a win in game two, but dropped two of three games to Weber State on Friday and Saturday.
  • Joecellia Roberts hit .500 with three extra-base hits, while the Toreros tallied a season-high six extra-base hits in game three against the Wildcats.
  • Courtney Rose continued to shine, including 4.2 innings of scoreless relief in game three.
 
OPPONENT HISTORY
  • San Diego is 1-8 against the Sun Devils in program history and are seeking their first win over the program since 2015.
 
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Taylor Johnson (11) and Tele Jennings (11) both stand at the top of the single-season doubles leaders through the first 34 games of the season. The program record in a single season is 18, set by Lindsey Fleet in 2008.
  • Johnson has been scorching hot at the plate in March, hitting .382 (21-for-55) with eight doubles and seven RBI.
  • The Torero outfield has developed a strong reputation on defense this season, as Jennings, Mikalyn Emanuelli and Carly Ruiz have a combined eight outfield assists after just one combined assist by Torero outfielder's last season.
  • Amanda Limon continues to serve as the defensive leader of the team, while climbing the Toreros all-time assists list. Limon stands in seventh all-time (349) and needs 28 to pass Kathleen Bonja (376) for sixth.
  • The Toreros also lead the WCC in fielding percentage (.965).
 
TORERO TIDBITS
  • Rose stands at 310 strikeouts and needs one to match Colleen Norman for sixth on the Toreros all-time strikeout list.
  • In addition, Rose stands in a tie for second on the Toreros all-time appearances list (117) and needs one more to pass Jennifer Ellenbeck.
  • Roberts (26) needs two more doubles to enter the top-10 all-time at San Diego and match Jade Quentin (28) for tenth.
  • San Diego leads the WCC in doubles (44) and ranks 56th nationally.
  • In addition, Johnson and Jennings rank first in the conference and 21st nationally.
  • Arisa Tovar (eight) and Shawnese Hogue-Lacy (five) rank first and third in the WCC in runners caught stealing. Tovar stands at 26th nationally, while Hogue-Lacy ranks 122nd.
