MALIBU, Calif. — Fresh off a hard-fought midweek win over USC, San Diego baseball (23-12, 8-4 WCC) is set to conclude an 16-day stretch of away contests with a trip to Malibu, taking on Pepperdine (12-25, 6-6 WCC) in a three-game West Coast Conference series at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

First pitch in the series opener on Friday afternoon is set for 3:00 p.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. start in game two on Saturday, and a 1:00 p.m. finale on Sunday afternoon. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+, with live statistics available on PepperdineWaves.com.

LAST TIME OUT - Bullpen Powers Tuesday Night Win at USC
• A gritty performance from the USD bullpen — one that saw three different pitchers throw a pair of scoreless innings — allowed San Diego to edge USC by a 3-2 margin on Tuesday night, earning it a midweek non-conference victory at Great Park in Irvine.

• San Diego found itself trailing by a run after the first inning, but quickly recovered by scoring a run in the second inning to tie the game, and never trailed again as starter Ryan Kysar and the Torero bullpen surrendered just one run through the final eight innings of play.

• A clutch RBI triple from Dustin Allen in the fifth inning gave San Diego a two-run cushion, which was enough for Ivran Romero, Alex Schrier, and Drake Frize to team up on the mound and pitch a pair of scoreless innings apiece to the victory for USD.

Notable:
• Jack Gurevitch paced the USD offense with a 2-for-4 mark, and crossed the plate once.

• Romero picked up the win on Tuesday evening to move to 5-1.

• Frize earned his second save of 2024 in Tuesday night's win.

• Dustin Allen's fifth-inning triple is his third of the season and his seventh of his career. His two RBIs against the Trojans marked his fourth multi-RBI performance of the season.

• Allen, Angelo Peraza, Austin Smith, and Justin DeCriscio each drew a walk in Tuesday's victory.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST PEPPERDINE
• The Toreros are 80-132 against the Waves all-time, with the two teams' most recent meeting coming last season on April 16, 2023, when then-junior Kevin Sim led USD to a win over the Waves with a towering two-run homer in the bottom of the first before closing out the contest in the top of the ninth with a diving stop at first base.

• The big afternoon from Sim, who went on to be selected  in the fifth round of the 2023 MLB Draft (148th overall pick) by the Arizona Diamondbacks, secured USD a series win over Pepperdine last year, with the Toreros rebounding from a 8-3 defeat in game one to prevail 8-4 in game two and 7-6 in game three.

• San Diego last played at Eddy D. Field on March 18, 19 and 20, 2022, when it took a series victory over the Waves in a weekend series. USD lost a 3-0 decision in game one that weekend, but bounced back to win games two and three by 8-1 and 6-3 margins.

FOR STARTERS (PROBABLE)
FRIDAY: Right-hander Josh Randall (2-2, 3.63 ERA) is set to start game one for the Toreros against the Waves at Eddy D. Field.

• He most recently pitched San Diego's series opener against Portland last weekend,  and did not allow a hit through his first six innings on the hill. He finished his night with seven innings pitched, surrendering four runs, with eight strikeouts and just two walks.

• Across 39.2 innings and eight starts in 2024 he has struck out a team-high 50 batters, walked 16, and held opposing hitters to a .208 average.

• Randall, a 6-foot-4, 240-pound junior from San Juan Capistrano, California, transferred to USD from Arizona, where he spent his freshman and sophomore seasons.

• He made 14 relief appearances during his true freshman campaign in 2022, compiling a 1-0 record and 15 strikeouts while limiting opposing hitters to a .231 batting average.

• As a sophomore in 2023, he was limited to just one pitching appearance due to injury.

• Randall brings postseason experience to the Torero rotation, having thrown three innings for the Wildcats in the 2022 NCAA Coral Gables Regional against Ole Miss.

• On January 26, he was tabbed as the 2024 Perfect Game Preseason WCC Pitcher of the Year.

SATURDAY: Logan Reddemann, who was named the WCC Freshman of The Week on April 1, will make his eighth start of the season and tenth overall pitching appearance of 2024 when he takes the mound for USD on Saturday afternoon in Malibu.

• Reddemann (3-3, 4.89 ERA) most recently pitched last Saturday in game two of San Diego's series against Portland when he surrendered five earned runs through four innings pitched, allowing eight hits while walking two and striking out six.

• So far in 2024 he has struck out 38 and walked 12 across a team-high 42.1 innings pitched.

• A 6-foot-2, 185-pound righty from Palmdale, California, Reddemann attended Quartz Hill High School in Lancaster, California, where he batted .420 across his prep career and compiled a 1.62 ERA.

• He earned First Team All-CIF Southern Selection honors in 2022 and 2023 and threw a perfect game during his senior season that included 11 strikeouts while going 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles.

• Reddemann is a switch-hitting two-way player who could also play middle infield for USD.
