Key Series Awaits for Softball Against Saint Mary’s

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego softball program (16-32, 4-4 WCC) wraps up their regular season home schedule with a critical four-game series, hosting Saint Mary's (24-20, 4-4 WCC) from Friday through Sunday at the USD Softball Complex.

Friday's opener is set for 5 p.m. Saturday features a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m., while the series will conclude on Sunday at 12 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
  • The Toreros wrapped up the series against Pacific with the first perfect game in program history, as Kelsey Tadlock threw a five inning, seven-strikeout gem to make history in a 9-0 drubbing of the Tigers back on Apr. 21.
  • Tadlock was promptly named the WCC Pitcher of the Week for her efforts, as she recorded the first ever perfect game and the sixth ever no-hit performance.
  • Taylor Johnson and Michelle Delgado each launched home runs to power the offense to a critical, run-rule victory.

OPPONENT HISTORY
  • San Diego is 51-75 in the all-time series and are looking to respond after dropping two of three games in Moraga last season.
  • The Toreros were led by Joecellia Roberts in last season's series, as she delivered a home run and an additional multi-hit game.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Less than one game separates four teams in the conference with eight games remaining.
  • San Diego is pursuing their first ever NCAA Tournament appearance, with the remaining series against Saint Mary's and Santa Clara serving as critical to their hopes.
  • Johnson (18) and Tele Jennings (14) both stand at the top of the single-season doubles leaders entering the final eight games of the regular season. The program record in a single season is 18, set by Lindsey Fleet in 2008.
  • The Torero outfield has developed a strong reputation on defense this season, as Jennings, Mikalyn Emanuelli and Carly Ruiz have a combined 10 outfield assists after just one combined assist by Torero outfielder's last season.
  • Amanda Limon continues to serve as the defensive leader of the team, while climbing the Toreros all-time assists list. Limon stands in sixth all-time (380) and needs 11 to pass Laura Cisneros (390) for fifth.
  • Should Limon play in all remaining games this season, she could become the eighth Torero to ever play 200 games and the fifth to start 200 games.

TORERO TIDBITS
  • Joecellia Roberts (27) needs one more double to enter the top-10 all-time at San Diego and match Jade Quentin (28) for tenth.
  • San Diego leads the WCC in doubles (64) and ranks 92nd nationally.
  • In addition, Johnson and Jennings rank first and second in the conference and ninth and 55th nationally.
  • Arisa Tovar (12) continues to shine on the defensive end, ranking 27th nationally in runners caught stealing.
