San Diego Heads to Washington to Continue WCC Play

First-place Toreros travel to Pullman and Seattle for matchups against Cougars and Redhawks

PULLMAN, Wash. — Winners of six straight WCC matches and the recipient of a league-leading 10 WCC weekly awards thus far in 2025, San Diego volleyball (13-4, 6-0 WCC) will hit the road this week for a pair of key conference clashes at Washington State (11-5, 4-1 WCC) and Seattle U (6-10, 0-5 WCC).

The Toreros will get their road trip started with a 7:00 p.m. matchup against the Cougars at Bohler Gym on Thursday night, then travel northwest to Redhawk Center on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tilt with the Redhawks. Both matches will be streamed live on ESPN+, with live statistics available on StatBroadcast.

LAST TIME OUT: USD SEIZES CONTROL OF WCC STANDINGS WITH WINS OVER PORTLAND AND OSU
• San Diego treated its former players to a pair of wins over the weekend, sweeping Portland (25-18, 25-13, 25-15) before beating Oregon State 3-1 (17-25, 25-17, 26-24, 25-19) on Alumni Weekend at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

• The victories vaulted the Toreros into sole possession of first place in the West Coast Conference as they dealt the Pilots and Beavers their first WCC losses of 2025.

BEACH AND MUNDAY EARN WCC WEEKLY HONORS
• Nemo Beach and Kylie Munday have been named the WCC Offensive Player and Setter of the Week for October 13, 2025, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday afternoon.

• The Toreros' dynamic duo helped USD win a pair of key matches against Portland and Oregon State over the weekend, pushing San Diego (13-4, 6-0 WCC) into sole possession of first place in the WCC standings.

• Beach, a junior outside hitter from Chandler, Arizona, continued her midseason surge by totaling 36 kills (5.14 K/S) while hitting a robust .326 across wins over Portland and Oregon State at the Jenny Craig Pavilion, also adding three service aces. She had 13 kills (4.33 K/S) and two service aces while hitting .375 in Thursday night's sweep of the Pilots, then racked up 23 kills (5.75 K/S) and another service ace while hitting .300 on Saturday afternoon as the Toreros defeated the Beavers by a 3-1 margin.

• Monday marked Beach's third WCC Offensive Player of the Week recognition of 2025. She is the only player to have won the award multiple times this season.

• Munday, a sophomore from Post Falls, Idaho, was at the center of San Diego's undefeated weekend, totaling 82 assists (11.71 A/S), 21 digs (3.00 D/S), six blocks, five kills, and four service aces.

• She recorded a double-double on both Thursday and Saturday, helping the Toreros hit .297 as a team while combining to record 105 kills and just 31 attack errors.

• Munday began her week with 31 assists (10.33 A/S) 11 digs, three blocks, two kills, and a service ace on Thursday night in a sweep of the Pilots, then racked up a remarkable 51 assists (12.75 A/S) in only four sets on Saturday afternoon as the Toreros defeated Oregon State by a 3-1 margin. She also added 10 digs, three blocks, three service aces, and three kills against the Beavers, which had entered the weekend tied with USD for first place in the WCC.

• Monday's recognition marks the Toreros' conference-leading ninth and 10th weekly WCC accolades of 2025, which have been earned by six different players. USD has captured a weekly conference honor in six of the season's seven weeks so far, including an award in each of the last five announcements dating back to September 15.

LEADING THE WAY
• San Diego players are among the West Coast Conference's leaders in multiple statistical categories entering Thursday night's action.

• Nemo Beach leads the league with 287 total kills, and is followed by teammate Isabel Clark, who ranks second in the WCC with 244 kills of her own. Beach's 3.99 kills per set is the second-best average in the conference.

• Olivia Bennett has recorded a conference-high 266 digs so far this season, and is third among all WCC players with an average of 3.69 digs per set.

• Kylie Munday is second in the WCC with 649 assists and an average of 9.83 assists per set, trailing conference leader Macy Hinshaw by just 0.08 assists per set.

DOMINANT DEFENSE
• As a team, USD leads the WCC in opponent hitting percentage (.193), digs (962), and total blocks (171.5).

EXPLOSIVE OFFENSE
• San Diego is tied for the league lead with a .254 hitting percentage so far in 2025, and ranks first in the WCC in total points (1,158.5) and assists (843). The Toreros 897 kills so far this season are the second-most in the conference, just three behind WCC leader Santa Clara.

ENGEMAN ANCHORS USD DEFENSE
• Graduate middle blocker Kali Engeman anchored the San Diego defense this weekend as the Toreros dispatched a pair of WCC contenders, tallying 12 blocks (one solo, 1.71 blocks per set) and four digs in wins over Portland and Oregon State at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

• Engeman had six blocks (2.00 B/S) and three digs on Thursday night in a 3-1 victory over the Pilots, then totaled six more blocks (one solo, 1.50 blocks per set) and one more dig on Saturday afternoon as USD prevailed 3-1 against the Beavers.

DURGAN STAYS HOT
First-year middle blocker Ava Durgan continued her hot streak this weekend, totaling 12 kills, six blocks (one solo), and three digs in wins over Portland and Oregon State. Durgan had seven kills while hitting .357 alongside two digs and three blocks (one solo) on Thursday night against the Pilots, then added five more kills, three block assists, and a dig on Saturday afternoon against the Beavers.

LYNCH PLAYS KEY ROLE IN WINNING WEEKEND
• First-year defensive specialist Lauren Lynch played a key role in San Diego's winning weekend, totaling 21 digs (3.00 D/S) as the Toreros defeated Portland and Oregon State at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. Lynch had 13 digs (4.33 D/S) on Thursday night in a sweep of the Pilots, then added eight more (2.00 D/S) in a 3-1 victory over Oregon State on Saturday afternoon.

RPI UPDATE
• The Toreros were ranked at No. 40 in October 13th's NCAA RPI metric, up from the placement at No. 55 that they received in the first set of rankings on October 8.

ALL-TIME SERIES AGAINST WASHINGTON STATE AND SEATTLE U
Washington State:
• The Cougars lead the all-time series, 4-3.

• San Diego split its matchups with Washington State last season, falling 3-1 on September 28, 2024 at Bohler Gym before enacting revenge with a 3-1 win on October 19, 2024 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

• USD is winless (0-3) all-time in Pullman, but has never lost to WSU in San Diego.

• In December 2022, the Toreros hosted the Cougars for a second-round NCAA Tournament matchup. Then-No.3-ranked San Diego defeated then-No. 24-ranked Washington State by a 3-1 margin before a crowd of 2,228 at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. After beating WSU, USD went on to appear in the 2022 NCAA National Semifinal.

Seattle U:
• USD leads the all-time series, 2-0. The Toreros have swept both of their previous matchups with the Redhawks.

• Saturday will mark the first time San Diego and Seattle U have played one another in volleyball in more than 16 years.

• USD and SU most recently met on September 15, 2009, when the Toreros won in straight sets at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

• Prior to that, the teams' only previous matchup came a year earlier on September 28, 2008, when San Diego swept the Redhawks in Seattle.

• Saturday afternoon's volleyball match will mark the first West Coast Conference competition between San Diego and Seattle U in any sport since the Redhawks officially joined the league earlier this year.

• On Saturday night, San Diego men's soccer will become the second USD program to clash with Seattle U in league play when it hosts the Redhawks at Torero Stadium.

GOING THE DISTANCE
• San Diego has played five sets on eight different occasions this season, and is 6-2 in such matches.

• Approximately 32 percent (8 of 17) of the Toreros' matches so far in 2025 (entering Thursday) have gone five sets.
