Late Equalizer Sees USD Women's Soccer Earn 2-2 Tie

San Diego scores with three minutes remaining to steal a point at home vs. LMU

SAN DIEGO – Las Toreras earned a 2-2 draw against LMU on Saturday night at Torero Stadium as Josefine Schlichting contributed to both goals, including a clutch equalizer from far out.

"We showed great character tonight," head coach Greg LaPorte said. "Twice behind, twice we found a way back. That's the mentality we want – to stay brave, to keep pushing. Josefine's finish was pure class."

Schlichting's game-tying goal in the 87th minute was class indeed, a top-corner strike from over 20 yards out. The senior captain from Sollstedt, Germany also played a beautiful ball onto junior mid Maquena O'Callaghan who also utilized a well-placed finish for San Diego's first goal in the 37th minute, both players fresh off the bench.

Both of the goals surrendered by USD were unfortunate ones. The 1-0 for the guests came by way of a 50-50 penalty call in the 26th minute. The 2-1 for LMU saw San Diego's junior keeper Ilise Medrano initially save a 1-v-1, only for the attacking Lion to pounce on the rebound and easily put it away.

While the two teams finished even on total shots, Medrano had a game-high six saves for a second straight match.
