PALM SPRINGS, Calif. — Sophomore
Ryan Abuan carded an 11-under 202 to lead San Diego men's golf to victory at The Prestige on Wednesday afternoon.
Abuan, a native of nearby Temecula, California, won the tournament's individual title with rounds of 68, 69, and 65. His efforts helped the Toreros finish first in the 24-team field at PGA West - Norman Course (Par 71, 7,129 yards), coming in 16 strokes ahead of second-place Texas Tech. As a team USD totaled rounds of 281, 276, and 266 strokes for a total of 823.
Senior
Ian Maspat joined Abuan in the Top 5 by placing tied for fourth with a seven-under 206 after rounds of 71, 69, and 66. He was closely followed by freshman
Cooper Humphreys, who was tied for seventh with a six-under 207 (71, 68, 68).
Sophomore
You Seong Choi (71, 70, 69) and graduate transfer
Jaden Cantafio (210, 72, 71, 67) rounded out USD's results by checking in at T-17 with matching rounds of 210.
Wednesday afternoon's victory marks the Toreros' second of the 2024-2025 season after they also captured first place at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational on October 16, 2024.
San Diego is back in action on Monday, February 24, when it competes in the Nick Watney Invitational at Sunnyside Golf Club in Fresno, California.
