ST. GEORGE, Utah – Competing in the second day of the MPSF Championships, the San Diego women's swimming and diving team put together a strong overall performance at the Human Perfomrnace Center at Utah Tech.
The Toreros had a full slate of events in both swimming and diving in St. George as USD had participants in the following events: 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and the three meter dive.
In total, USD had four individual student-athletes reach the podium as well as the 200 freestyle relay squad who finished in the top three of their race as well.
Beginning the championship competition, the USD divers were led by Jane Riehs who picked up a third place finish in the three meter dive with an overall score of 250.45 in St. George on Thursday.
Starting with the 200 freestyle relay, the Torero quartet of Gabrielle Zinis, Ava Delaney, Mallory Paine and Analeis Vos finished with a time of 1:33.16 on Thursday evening which is the second fastest in the program's history.
There were multiple Toreros who also had a great performance as Milan Bever (5:03.86) and Chloe Howell (5:10.35) in the 500 freestyle raced to lifetime best race times in both events. Zinis also followed that with her best career mark in the 50 freestyle to wrap up her stellar day.
Skylar Bruner earned a first place finish in the 500 freestyle as well with a time of 4:58.24 to earn the conference championship. True freshman Catherine Dueck also earned the MPSF's highest honor after posting a 2:03.86 time in the 200 individual medley at Utah Tech.
USD now will look ahead to the third day of the MPSF Championships on Friday, with diving wrapping up their competition alongside swimming.
