ST. GEORGE, Utah – Racing in the penultimate day of the 2025 MPSF Championships, the San Diego women's swimming and diving team put together a strong all-around performance on Friday at Utah Tech's Human Performance Center.
USD had participants in the following events on Friday afternoon and evening: 100 butterfly, 400 individual medley, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 400 medley relay, one meter dive and time trials.
Beginning the championship competition with the final day of diving, Jane Riehs turned in another strong performance as she finished in second place in the one meter dive with a score of 250.80 to wrap up her season. Reaching the podium in both the one and three meter dives in her last meet at USD.
The Toreros excelled in the 100 butterfly with three different student-athletes putting up career-best times on Friday with Ava Delaney (55.73), Milan Bever (56.71) and Skyler Horder (56.23) leading the way. Delaney reached the podium as well with a third place overall finish in the race.
Gabrielle Zinis and Chloe Howell both turned in new lifetime best marks racing in the 200 freestyle as Howell finished at 1:55.30 and Zinis was not far behind at 1:56.72.
USD also received a trio of tremendous performances in the 100 backstroke as Penelope Leonard (56.47), Skylar Bruner (55.83), and Skylar Horder (55.83) all turned in personal bests as well. Leonard's strong performance earned her a second place finish and a podium spot.
Two other Torero student-athletes reached the podium on Friday as Gwendolyn Smith (400 individual medley) posted a time of 4:31.44 and Catherine Dueck (100 breaststroke) who raced to a time of 1:03.62.
Rounding out the evening on a high note, the San Diego 400 medley relay team consisting of Zinis, Dueck, Delaney and Bruner earned a third place finish and a podium spot after posting a time of 3:48.00. The Torero quartet out touched conference foe Pepperdine in the race as well to wrap up a strong night for the program.
USD now looks ahead to the final day of the MPSF Championships beginning at 9:00 a.m. PST as the Toreros seek to finish their season on a high note.
