SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Following a pair of clean sheets and Torero victories on the team's home pitch, San Diego sophomore goalkeeper Lucca Adams has been named the West Coast Conference's Defensive Player of the Week. Adams totaled three impressive saves while keeping both No. 20 UC Irvine and UC San Diego off the score sheet as the Toreros ran their unbeaten streak to eight consecutive matches.
Adams picked up his first career save in Wednesday's take down of previously unbeaten UCI as the Torero back line held the Anteaters to just five total shots in the match as San Diego earned the upset victory to start the week on a high note.
Once again playing on a rare rainy night in Southern California, Adams picked up two more massive saves as USD shut down their crosstown rival for a big 1-0 victory as the Toreros enter WCC play unbeaten on their home field.
This marks the first time in Adams' collegiate career that he's earned the conference's weekly award as the sophomore transferred into the Torero program this offseason after competing for UCLA as a freshman. Adams now joins teammates Simon Duus Muller and Noah James as recipients of the conference's weekly award as the pair earned the offensive player of the week in the second and third week of the season respectively.
