ORANGE COUNTY — Following a stellar debut in her first meet as a Torero, San Diego swim and dive sophomore
Sydney Wilson has been named The Big West's Swimmer of the Week following her strong performance in her team's pentathlon meet against San Diego State last week.
Wilson raced in six different events in the season opening meet against the Aztecs as she put together a third place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:37.96. She also raced in the 100 freestyle (56.45), 100 backstroke (1:00.93), 100 butterfly (1:02.06), 100 breaststroke (1:15.35) and 100 individual medley (1:05.01) as USD competed on a sun-soaked San Diego afternoon.
The Portland, Oregon native placed 17th overall in the meet with a combined time of 5:19.80 as she started her Torero career on a high note by taking home the first edition of the conference's weekly award.
USD will be back in action this coming Friday, September 26 as they will once again race against SDSU in a distance competition that will begin at 1:00 p.m. from the USD Sports Center Pool. The meet and every San Diego home swim meet for the remainder of the season is free and open to the public.
