SAN DIEGO — The University of San Diego swimming and diving team fell to San Diego State 155-108 in a competitive dual meet on Friday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex. Despite the loss, the Toreros showcased several standout individual performances and picked up key victories in multiple events.
USD's brightest moment came in the 100-yard freestyle, where the Toreros claimed a commanding 1-2-3 finish. Junior
Claudia Dumais led the charge with a winning time of 52.20, followed closely by senior
Ava Delaney (52.30) and freshman
Alison Diehl (52.36).
"Our team swam and dove well," head coach
Mike Keeler said after the meet. "We are finishing a tough training block at the end of the intersession camp. School starts this Monday, and then we have our final dual meet versus UC San Diego, where we will be honoring our 2026 graduating class."
Diehl proved her versatility beyond the sprint events, claiming victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a strong 5:07.09.
In the butterfly events, Delaney added another individual win with a 57.49 in the 100-yard butterfly, while sophomore
Sydney Wilson took the 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.72. Junior
Elise Sullivan secured USD's only breaststroke victory, touching first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:25.83.
On the boards, sophomore
Brooke Blaylock had an impressive showing on the 3-meter springboard, finishing fourth with a score of 279.15. The USD diving squad faced a strong SDSU group but competed well across both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.
San Diego's "A" relay team of Dumais, Diehl, Delaney, and
Analeis Vos finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31.21.
The Toreros will be back in action next Saturday, January 31, when they return home to the USD Sports Center Pool for another crosstown matchup, this time against UC San Diego.
