PHOENIX — San Diego softball (5-6, 0-0 WCC) on Friday morning dropped game three of its five game slate at the Purple Classic this weekend to UC Santa Barbara (3-10, 0-0 Big West), falling to the Gauchos 7-0 at the GCU Softball Stadium.
The Toreros surrendered three runs through the first two innings of play, before keeping the Gauchos scoreless in the third and fourth frames. A trio of RBIs in the fifth frame pushed the UCSB lead to six, before they pushed it to 7-0 in the top of the sixth, a lead that the Toreros did not relinquish.
Alex Riggs got the start on the mound and threw 2.0 frames to open up the game, before turning it over to
Kaitlyn Bartlow who tossed 4.2 innings.
Charlie Johnson finished the game in the circle by recording the last out.
Mallory Axline and Kaitlyn Wynia each recorded a hit on the offensive side, with Taylor Johnson earning two hit-by-pitches from the plate.
