PHOENIX — Three hits from
Michelle Delgado combined with a complete game shutout from
Kaitlyn Bartlow in the circle powered San Diego softball (6-7, 0-0 WCC) to a 4-0 shutout victory over Montana (4-9, 0-0 Big Sky) on Saturday morning, earning the Toreros their first victory of the Purple Classic, and second shutout of 2026 as they defeated the Grizzlies at the GCU Softball Stadium.
USD got off to a quick start by scoring a pair of runs in the top of the second inning that was kickstarted by a leadoff double from Taylor Johnson. She was then plated by an RBI single up the middle from Mallory Axline to give USD an early 1-0 lead.
Kaylee Oh continued the early momentum with an RBI groundout to drive in Axline and double the USD at 2-0.
This was enough run support for
Kaitlyn Bartlow to continue her stellar day in the circle, keeping the Grizzlies scoreless by surrendering just three total hits, while striking out four batters and walking none.
An RBI sacrifice fly from
Shawnese Hogue-Lacy, and an RBI single from Delgado in the top of the seventh inning added a pair of insurance runs to give the Toreros a 4-0 lead they would not relinquish.
