SAN DIEGO — The University of San Diego swimming and diving team hosted UC San Diego on January 31 at the USD Sports Center Pool, where an enthusiastic home crowd gathered to celebrate Senior Day. Before competition began, USD honored eight seniors in a pre-meet ceremony:
Ava Delaney,
Morgan Divita,
Skyler Horder,
Chloe Howell,
Penelope Leonard,
Regan Santoro,
Anna Vermeulen, and
Analeis Vos. The Toreros captured multiple event victories, including a diving sweep by
Brooke Blaylock and distance freestyle wins from
Sydney Wilson, but UCSD prevailed 147-130.
Sophomore
Brooke Blaylock delivered an outstanding performance on the 1-meter board, sweeping both diving sessions with scores of 259.35 and 256.88. Senior
Morgan Divita provided strong support with second-place finishes in both rounds (238.58 and 244.28), while senior
Regan Santoro added third-place efforts (237.38 and 223.28). The diving squad accounted for crucial points throughout the meet.
Senior
Analeis Vos captured the 50 Free with a strong 23.83, leading a 1-2 Torero finish with freshman
Haley Borja taking second in 24.00. Sophomore
Mallory Paine delivered a second-place effort in the 100 Free (51.99), while junior
Claudia Dumais touched fourth (52.37). Borja also contributed a second-place finish in the 50 Back (26.51).
Sophomore
Sydney Wilson was impressive in the distance events, winning the 700 Free in a thrilling race with a time of 6:59.79—just eight hundredths ahead of UCSD's top swimmer. Wilson followed up with a victory in the 300 Free (2:55.29), demonstrating her range and endurance.
Freshman
Alison Diehl made an immediate impact with a commanding victory in the 150 Free, clocking 1:20.03. Sophomore
Alexandra Ostrom placed fourth in the 300 Free (3:00.09), while senior
Anna Vermeulen finished fifth (3:04.38).
Junior
Elise Sullivan secured a solid third-place finish in the 50 Breast (29.94) and fifth in the 150 Breast (1:43.49). Senior
Penelope Leonard added valuable points with a second-place finish in the 50 Back (26.51) and a fourth in the 100 IM (59.39).
Diehl continued her strong meet with a second-place showing in the 150 Fly (1:32.31), while junior
Elle Ramos earned sixth in the same event (1:34.67).
The Toreros' A relay team of Borja, Diehl, Paine, and Vos captured first place in the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:34.43. The B relay of Dumais, Ostrom, Ramos, and Guerra added a third-place finish in 1:37.61.
San Diego showed strength across multiple events, with particularly dominant performances in diving and distance freestyle. Despite falling short in the final team score, USD demonstrated depth and competitive spirit throughout the meet.
