DAVIS, Calif. — A complete game in her first start of 2026 from
Kelsey Tadlock headlined a dominant 5-1 win for San Diego softball (2-1, 0-0 WCC) over Colorado State (1-2, 0-0 MWC) on Saturday morning at La Rue Field as part of the NorCal Kickoff.Â
After a pair of scoreless innings to begin the game from both teams, the Toreros struck first in the top of the third inning with an RBI single up the middle from Kaitlyn Wynia that plated Liliana Esparza who had reached scoring position with a double to right center field earlier in the inning.
A fielding error by the Rams' pitcher, combined with back-to-back sacrifice flies from Shawnese Hogue-Lacy and Taylor Johnson allowed the Toreros to strike for a trio of runs in the fifth inning, which was enough cushion for Tadlock to continue her stellar day in the circle, eventually ending with four strikeouts, and just four hits allowed.Â
Neither team scored again until the seventh inning, when Johnson sent an RBI double to right center field that plated Hailey Mulligan to make it 5-0 with one half inning to play.
The Rams knocked an RBI single in the bottom of the frame to score one run and make it 5-1, but got no closer, as Tadlock closed out the inning with a strikeout to secure the victory for USD.
