Three-Run Fourth Secures Victory Over Cal Poly

Key RBIs from Hogue-Lacy, Johnson, and Oh fuel comeback win over Mustangs

SACRAMENTO — A three-run fourth inning combined with yet another dynamic pitching performance from Kelsey Tadlock allowed San Diego Softball (3-2, 0-0 WCC) to erase a two run deficit and earn a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Cal Poly (0-5, 0-0 Big West) on Sunday afternoon at Shea Stadium.

The Broncos struck first with runs in the second and third innings to claim an early 2-0 lead, but a fourth inning rally from the Toreros plated three runs which was just enough cushion for Tadlock to finish the job in the circle and close the game for San Diego.

The winning frame began with a leadoff single from Hailey Mulligan to get a base runner on for USD, before Shawnese Hogue-Lacy ripped an RBI triple off the right-center wall that sent Mulligan all the way home, cutting the Mustang lead in half at 2-1.

Taylor Johnson then tied the game at two runs a piece with an RBI sacrifice fly to left field that allowed Hogue-Lacy to dash home. Kaylee Oh followed suit later in the inning with an RBI single that scored Michelle Delgado who had reached third on two walks and a hit by pitch, giving the Toreros a 3-2 lead.

Tadlock then finished the job in the circle, keeping Cal Poly scoreless through the final four frames, finishing her day with 4.2 innings pitched and surrendering just one hit and no earned runs, while striking out three. She entered the game in the top of the third inning for freshman righty Analesse "Peanut" Garcia, who made the first start and appearance of her young collegiate career.

The Toreros will be back in action this Thursday, when they host Weber State for a double header at Reggie Smith Softball Complex for their 2026 home opener, as part of the USD/UCSD Co-Host Tournament. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., with game two beginning no earlier than 6:30 p.m.
