Steven Ramirez Named WCC Player of the Week

Senior forward scores twice against Liberty, and earned an assist against top-ranked Washington

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — San Diego senior forward Steven Ramirez has been named the WCC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Aug. 24, 2026, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday afternoon.

Ramirez had a hand in three of the Toreros' five goals during a 2-0-0 week. He set up the opening goal in Thursday's 2-1 win at top-ranked Washington, then scored twice in a span of 91 seconds Sunday to flip a one-goal deficit into a 3-1 victory over Liberty in the home opener at Torero Stadium. His second-half burst — a right-footed finish to the upper corner in the 62nd minute and a left-footed slot past the keeper in the 64th — came on a night he finished with four shots and a team-high three on goal.

The honor is the first conference weekly award of Ramirez's career, and the first WCC Offensive Player of the Week award of the 2026 season. He is also the first Torero recognized since Iain Wagner earned Offensive Player of the Week honors on Nov. 17, 2025. The Garden Grove, Calif., native has drawn WCC postseason recognition in each of his first three seasons, landing on the All-WCC Freshman Team in 2023, honorable mention in 2024 and the second team in 2025.

The No. 18 Toreros return to the field on Thursday, Aug. 27, when they travel to Palo Alto to face current No. 9 Stanford. Kickoff at Maloney Field at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium is set for 4 p.m., with the match streaming on ESPN+.
