SAN DIEGO — San Diego men's soccer sits at No. 1 in the country in the Top Drawer Soccer Division I Top 25 released Monday, the first time the program has held the top spot in a national poll. The Toreros climbed 11 places from No. 12 in the preseason edition.

San Diego had never been ranked higher than No. 3 in any national poll, a mark the Toreros reached in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 on Nov. 5, 2024, at 12-1-2.

The move to the top followed a 2-0-0 opening week. San Diego went to Seattle on Aug. 20 and beat then-No. 1 Washington 2-1, handing the defending national champions a loss in their first test of the season, then returned to Torero Stadium three days later and answered a halftime deficit with three unanswered goals to beat Liberty 3-1 in the home opener. Washington sits fifth in this week's poll.

Top Drawer Soccer is one of the two national polls most widely cited in Division I men's soccer. The other, the United Soccer Coaches Top 25, releases its first in-season rankings Tuesday at 1 p.m. PT. San Diego opened the year 18th in that poll, which has not been updated since its preseason edition and carried the Toreros at No. 18 through both of last week's results.

The Toreros are one of two West Coast Conference programs in this week's Top Drawer Soccer rankings, joined by No. 11 Portland. Ninth-year head coach Brian Quinn's side, winner of four straight WCC titles, returns to action Thursday at No. 8 Stanford. Kickoff at Maloney Field at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium is set for 4 p.m., with the match streaming on ESPN+.
