HONOLULU — Kylie Munday handed out 42 assists and led San Diego with 19 digs for a second straight double-double, and the Toreros picked up their first win of the 2026 season Saturday, beating Georgia Southern 25-17, 26-24, 17-25, 25-9 at the Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic.
Munday, the 2024 and 2025 WCC Setter of the Year and 2026 FISU America Games MVP, averaged 10.5 assists per set running an offense that hit .295 for the match, and she finished with one more dig than libero
Lauren Lynch to lead the Toreros in the back row. She added a kill, an ace and a block in front of 567 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
The Toreros (1-1, 0-0 WCC) turned 132 swings into 59 kills and out-hit the Eagles (0-2, 0-0 Sun Belt) .295 to .159.
Nemo Beach led all players with 13 kills,
Kierstyn Barton and
Ryann Knuth put down 12 apiece, and
Meghan Scholz was the most efficient hitter on the floor, going 10-for-15 without an error for a .667 clip to go with a team-high five blocks.
BayLea Sparks hit .545 with seven kills.
San Diego had to survive the second set to get its two-set cushion. The Toreros led 24-19, then watched Georgia Southern save five straight set points — three of them on Beka Pfefferkorn aces — to pull even at 24. Beach settled it with back-to-back kills for a 26-24 win.
Georgia Southern answered with the cleanest set of the night by either team, 16 kills against one error on 30 swings for a .500 clip. Alex Myers served consecutive aces to turn a three-point lead into 10-5, and the Eagles took the third 25-17 despite USD hitting .276 in the set.
Whatever the Eagles carried out of that set was gone within minutes. San Diego scored the first eight points of the fourth, three of them on consecutive Knuth aces, and pushed the lead to 12-1. The Toreros hit .464 in the set on 15 kills and two errors while Georgia Southern managed five kills against five errors on 29 swings for a .000 clip.
Emma Brewer ended the match with a kill.
Knuth finished with four aces and a match-high 16.5 points. Lynch handled 23 serve-receive attempts with two errors for a .913 mark and added 18 digs, and San Diego passed at .882 as a team.
