SAN DIEGO — San Diego men's soccer is No. 4 in the Top Drawer Soccer Division I Top 25 released Monday, keeping the Toreros in the top five at 2-1-0.

The ranking follows a week at No. 1, the first time the program had held the top spot in a national poll. San Diego's only loss came Aug. 27 at No. 1 Stanford, decided by a goal in the 89th minute, and the Cardinal move up to No. 1 this week at 4-0-0. Unbeaten Maryland and SMU sit second and third.

San Diego is again one of two West Coast Conference teams in the Top 25 and the highest-ranked of them, joined by No. 13 Portland. Washington — the defending national champion the Toreros beat 2-1 in Seattle in the season opener — is eighth at 2-2-0.

The Toreros opened the year 12th in Top Drawer Soccer's preseason poll and have climbed eight spots since. The United Soccer Coaches Top 25, the other poll most widely cited in Division I men's soccer, updates Tuesday; San Diego enters the week second in that ranking.
