San Diego, CA- No. 17 San Diego improved its home record to 7-0 with a three-game sweep over San Francisco Saturday night at USD's Jenny Craig Pavilion. Junior attacker Devon Forster was again the catalyst for the Toreros, putting down 26 kills in the winning effort. San Diego (15-4; 4-1 WCC) won by individual game scores of (30-18, 30-28, 30-28). San Francisco (17-4; 2-4 WCC), swept by No. 14 Santa Clara on Friday night, suffered a second consecutive three-game defeat.
Forster was the only Torero to reach double figures in kills Saturday, but San Diego again received a solid outing from its freshmen class. Ryan Maspero started and totaled eight kills and as many digs. Rookie middle blocker Emily Haas hit for a .529 percentage one day removed from hitting .545 during San Diego's win over St. Mary's. Freshman Christie Dawson killed six while sophomore setter Lindsey Sherburne reached the 50 assist mark for the ninth time this season.
San Diego also received a match-best 18 digs from sophomore transfer Jackie Bernardin. Junior right side hitter Kristen Hurst put down nine kills and added 10 digs.
For San Francisco, the Dons were paced by senior attacker Brittanie Budinger's 19 kills. Senior teammate Teresa Russell killed 10 while senior setter April Scoggin passed out 32 assists.
The Toreros face the most challenging of road tests next weekend. San Diego travels to play defending league champion and No. 6 Pepperdine on Friday at 7pm, followed by a date with No. 19 Loyola Marymount on Saturday at 7pm.
