19th ranked San Diego was too much for host Gonzaga during WCC action Saturday night in Spokane, Washington. The Toreros improved to 13-3 overall, 2-0 in the WCC, winning in straight games (30-19, 30-24, 30-28). All-West Coast Conference performer Devon Forster led four San Diego players into double digit kills as she collected a match-high 19 kills on 41 attacks. Bridget Merritt followed with 12 kills as USD finished with a 60-31 kills advantage over the Bulldogs. San Diego combined for a .265 team hitting percentage after hitting a blistering .448 in the opening game. Emily Haas added 11 kills and Kristen Hurst had 10 to round out the Toreros foursome with double-figure kills.
Gonzaga (3-13, 0-2 WCC) was paced by Abby Cullen's 10 kills on 25 attacks. Cullen also helped control play at the net as she finished with nine blocks, three of them solo. After having a sluggish start in the opening game, Gonzaga stayed in contention in games two and three with 15 kills in the final game. Gonzaga held a 25-21 advantage during game three before struggling to put away San Diego and force a game four. Natasha Kozen had six kills to finish second on the Gonzaga team.
