Texas Takes Opener In Austin

AUSTIN, TX- No. 5 Texas (4-0) tacked on five late runs to win its home opener 9-0 over San Diego (3-4) in front of 4,095 at Disch-Falk Field in Austin on Friday. Three Longhorn pitchers combined to shutout San Diego during a game that was closely contested throughout the first six innings. Texas starter Sam LeCure (1-0) was the pitcher of record for the Longhorns while USD's Aaron Wilson (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season.

San Diego fell behind 2-0 in the second inning on a bases clearing triple by Texas second baseman Seth Johnston. The Toreros were unable to respond despite putting runners at second and third in the top half of the third inning with no outs. Texas eventually chased Wilson in the sixth and scored four more runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

USD freshman second baseman Keoni Ruth was 2-for-3 with a triple. In all San Diego registered only four hits. The USD defense yeilded four errors and the Torero pitching staff issued 10 walks.

Texas infielder's Robby Hudson and Curtis Thigpen both enjoyed multi-hit games. Hudson and DH Michael Hollimon drove in two runs each. Longhorn pitcher's Brent Cox and Randy Boone came in to secure the win for LeCure.
