SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team (2-3) dropped a 5-0 decision to cross-town rival San Diego State University (4-1) Wednesday evening at the San Diego State Softball Stadium.
After a scoreless first inning, the Aztecs scored one run in each of the remaining five innings to put the game at its final score of 5-0. Offensively for the Aztecs, Erin Floros led the way going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. SDSU's Christina Ross (2-1) is credited with the win allowing no runs on two hits in seven innings of work.
The Toreros recorded two hits on the day with the first one coming in the first inning. Senior shortstop Ashlee Nunes registered a single to third base. Outfielder Nichole Valenzuela registered USD's final hit in the third inning. Valenzuela then stole second base but could move no further, ending the Toreros scoring threat. Junior pitcher Christina Haake (0-1) recorded the loss for the Toreros allowing five runs, three earned, on 10 hits in five innings of work.
The Toreros return home to the USD Softball complex for a doubleheader against Vanguard University on Saturday Feb. 18, with the first game scheduled to begin at noon.
