Hornets Take Two From Toreros In Softball

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team (21-23, 5-9 PCSC) dropped back-to-back games to the Sacramento State University Hornets (16-31, 7-6 PCSC) 9-1 in game one and 7-1 in game two.

The Toreros were run-ruled in game one as the Hornets had a 2-1 lead going into the sixth inning. Sacramento State scored seven runs for a 9-1 victory ending the game early. Starting pitcher Christina Haake pitched 5.1 innings giving up seven runs. Haake falls to 7-8 on the season.

In game two, USD lost 7-1 to the Hornets. San Diego's lone run came in the third inning as Stacy Compton got on base with a fielders choice bunt, and then was replaced by Alexa Baldino to pinch run. Kaslin Tucker hit a single to centerfield allowing Baldino to advance to second base. Nichole Valenzuela hit a single to left field moving Tucker to second base and Baldino scored.

The Hornets scored two runs in the second inning, three runs in the fourth, and two more runs in the sixth. Katie Jo Nelson picked up the loss falling to 4-9 striking out four batters.

USD returns to the diamond to take on the Hornets Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader scheduled for noon and 2:00 p.m.
