SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego swimming and diving team rolled over crosstown rival UC San Diego Tritons with an impressive 172-122 victory Saturday afternoon at the USD Sports Center Pool.
The Toreros took first place in 12 of the 16 events at the meet starting off with a sweep of the top score at diving hosted at the UC San Diego diving complex. Monica Oddo took first in the 1 meter diving event with a score of 268.40 and followed that with a first place finish in the 3 meter event scoring 226.50 to give the Toreros an 18-14 lead earlier in the morning.
San Diego lead off with a first place finish in the 200 yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:46.55. Heading into the individual events, Emily Lightcap had a solid eight second lead to finish in 10:35.82 in the 1000 freestyle
Francesca Finucane had another multiple first place day capturing top time in the 200 freestyle at 1:51.72 followed by a first place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:03.04. Other first place finishers included Eleanor Phillips with a 2:03.63 first place time in the 200 butterfly, Jacquie Kimmel in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.30, Sarah Geerdes with a 52.86 in the 100 freestyle, Melissa Andruzzi with a 2:22.79 in the 200 breaststroke, and Kelly Stone with a mark of 57.44 in the 100 butterfly.
San Diego wrapped up the day with a win in the 400 yard freestyle (Finucane, Deckard, Kimmel, Geerdes) finishing in 3:31.32, a three second lead ahead of second place UCSD's "A" squad.
The Toreros return to the water for a three-day invitational in Long Beach, California at the Marriott Cup on November 18-20.
