SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swimming and diving team jumped ahead to sixth place with 144 points after solid swimming by the team.
"It was another great session for us today," head coach Mike Keeler said. "We had some great swims from our athletes. The whole team is looking forward to tomorrow."
San Diego had one individual entered in the 500 freestyle, one individual entered in the 200 yard IM, two athletes in the 50 freestyle, and one squad in the 200 freestyle relay.
Senior Sarah Gleason swam to a third place finish in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:57.09 to start off the day. Sarah Geerdes finished in third place for the second year in a row with a time of 2:03.71 in the 200 individual medley. In the 50 freestyle, Francesca Finucane finished in eighth place with a time of 24.05 in the A final while teammate Jacquie Kimmel took tenth place in a time of 23.99 in the B final. Rounding out the day's events was the 200 Freestyle Relay squad of Francesca Finucane, Kristina Levesque, Sarah Geerdes, and Jacquie Kimmel taking fourth place with a time of 1:34.53.
The Toreros return for day three of competition on Friday with preliminary heats at 11:00 a.m. in the 400 Individual Medley, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, and the 100 Backstroke. The afternoon session will start at 1:00 p.m. with the 1-Meter diving. While the evening session scheduled for 6:30 p.m. will start with the 400 Individual Medley final, followed by the 100 Butterfly final, the 200 Freestyle final, the 100 Breaststroke final, the 1-meter diving finals, and the 400 Medley Relay final.
