Pacific Invite Complete Results
STOCKTON, Calif.- The University of San Diego women's swimming team was unable to build off their momentum from day one of the Pacific Invitational and wound up finishing the two-day meet on Saturday in third place with a total of 766 points. The Toreros came in behind Pacific (801 points) and BYU (1,129).
The Toreros kicked off day two with a strong second-place showing in the 200 yard freestyle relay as their A relay team of Sarah Geerdes, Melissa Andruzzi, Francesca Finucane, and Jacquie Kimmel came in at 1:37.68, a little more than a second behind winner BYU (1:36.21).
In the 200 yard butterfly, freshman Keenan Lineback continued to impress in her young USD career as she earned a second-place finish with a time of 2:06.31. Lineback trailed winner Kim Welch of BYU (2:05.75), while sophomore Eleanor Phillips came in third at 2:06.53.
BYU and Pacific dominated the 100 yard backstroke as the top USD finisher in that event was freshman Taylor Noonan, who posted a time of 1:00.45, good for ninth place.
Lineback (5:08.37) and Finucane (5:09.23) turned in fourth and fifth-place finishes, respectively, in the 500 yard freestyle.
Kimmel (2:16.32) and Phillips (2:16.81) clocked the best time for the Toreros in the 200 yard IM, taking eighth and ninth place, respectively.
USD came back to life in the 100 yard freestyle when Geerdes won with a time of 52:52, while Finucane (52.85) and Andruzzi (53.31) finished third and fifth, respectively.
The 200 yard backstroke proved to be another challenging obstacle for the Toreros as Lineback posted the best USD finish at seventh place with a time of 2:13.23. Phillips was right behind her in eighth place at 2:13.81.
In the 100 yard butterfly, Kelly Stone gave the Toreros a top-five presence as she finished in fifth place with a time of 58.39.
Andruzzi followed that up with another fifth place finish for USD, this time in the 200 yard breaststroke, by clocking a time of 2:30.61.
The Toreros closed out the day on strong note by winning the final women's event of the meet, the 800 yard freestyle relay. Noonan, Lineback, Finucane, and Geerdes teamed to notch a top time of 7:40.29. Unfortunately for USD, the 40 points earned from winning that relay were not enough to bump them above second-place finisher Pacific in the overall scoring.
USD will now turn their attention to the Cal Poly Shootout on Nov. 4th and 5th in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
