LONG BEACH, Calif.- The University of San Diego women's swimming team concluded competition Saturday afternoon at the Arena Invitational from the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. The Toreros finished 15th overall out of 21 women's squads competing, with a total of 173 points over the three-day meet. California won the meet with 989 points, followed by Arizona State (865.5) and Stanford (812). The meet was a good opportunity for the Toreros to evaluate how they stacked up with other top programs in the region and the west coast.
USD finished ahead of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponents Cal State Bakersfield (166) and Loyola Marymount (147.5).
Standing out for the Toreros was freshman Keenan Lineback, who posted USD's best finish in an event final on the weekend, finishing in eighth place in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 16:57.02.
The Toreros A relay team of Sarah Geerdes, Melissa Andruzzi, Taylor Noonan and Francesca Finucane posted a 10th-place showing in the 800 yard freestyle relay on Friday with a time of 7:31.33. That finish was the best in the meet for a USD relay.
On Thursday, the Toreros posted a 15th-place finish in the first women's event, the 200 freestyle relay, as USD's A team of Jacquie Kimmel, Kelly Stone, Andruzzi and Finucane clocked a time of 1:36.40. USD followed that by finishing in 14th place in the 400 medley relay. Kimmel, Andruzzi, Stone and Finucane again teamed to notch a time of 3:57.16.
In the first individual final on Thursday, the 500 yard freestyle, Finucane clocked a 4:57.49, good for 27th place. In the 200 yard individual medley final that followed, Andruzzi finished in 32nd place with a time of 2:06.16.
Friday's action saw the Toreros' A relay team of Taylor Noonan, Sarah Geerdes, Stone and Kimmel come in at 15th place with a time of 1:47.25 in the 200 yard medley relay final.
Later on that day, Noonan posted a 27th-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle final, coming in at 1:51.83.
The 400 yard freestyle relay final on Saturday featured the USD A relay team of Kimmel, Andruzzi, Finucane and Geerdes, who finished 11th with a 3:29.96. Also on Saturday, Phillips earned a 27th-place finish in the 200 yard butterfly final, clocking a time of 2:04.36.
USD returns to action when selected members of the squad travel to compete in the US Nationals Dec. 1st-3rd in Atlanta, GA.
