Toreros Fall to No. 2 Oklahomoa, 7-1

March 4, 2011

Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team dropped a 7-1 decision to No. 2 Oklahoma Friday afternoon in a non-conference game at Cunningham Stadium.

The Sooners got on the scoreboard first, as they pushed across four runs on three hits in the top of the third inning. The OU runs came on Tyler Ogle run-scoring double, an Evan Mistch RBI single, a solen base and a USD error to take an early 4-0 lead.

After the Sooners added on three more runs in the top of the eighth inning, San Diego tried to put on a rally in the ninth. Zack Kometani got things started as he drew a walk to lead off the inning. Three batters later, Scott Schauer moved Kometani to second on a single up the middle. Danny Hawksley then drove in Kometani with a RBI single to right field, but the Toreros could not push across another run to leave the game at its final of 7-1.

Offensively for the Toreros, Hawksley led the way as he went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Calvin Drummond (1-1) was saddled with the loss for the Toreros, as he allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits in 5.0 innings of work. Oklahoma's Bobby Shore went the distance in oicking up the win for the Sooners, allowing one run on eight hits in 9.0 innings of work.

The Toreros will return to action on Monday as they host Connecticut in a 2 p.m. game at Cunningham Stadium to close out pay I the USD Tournament.
