LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The USD Toreros split day two at the Eller Media Stadium Classic with a phenomenal come-from behind victory in their morning game against the Bradley University Braves winning 15-8 followed by a 5-0 loss in the afternoon match up with the San Jose State Spartans.
The Toreros improve to an overall mark of 5-4 staying above .500 and have a 1-0 away record to go along with a 3-1 neutral record.
Game one against the Braves had the Toreros behind 8-2 through the first three innings of action. Taylor Hensley sent a ball screaming over centerfield, her first homerun of the season, and Lauren Tomey knocked an RBI-single into left-centerfield scoring Megan Walsh for USD's two early runs. Despite being down six, USD dug deep and battled their way out of the deficit to the tune of a 13 unanswered run rally as the Toreros won 15-8.
San Diego scored five runs in the fourth inning with a lead-off double by Tomey, her second hit of the game, while Taylor Hensley smashed a ball deep to left centerfield for a two-RBI double. Jessica Tieszen would record her fourth homerun of the tournament along with three RBI's lifting USD to within one run of the Braves, 7-8. USD Would post three more runs in the sixth inning including a two-RBI double down the left field line by designated player Jenny Lahitte as USD took the lead back 10-8. In the seventh inning, USD's offensive attack continued as they scored five runs on five hits. Tieszen recorded an RBI-double as well as Soto picking up an RBI-double.
Three Toreros recorded three hits each in the game against the Braves. San Diego had 18 hits overall and 14 RBI. From the Circle, Cassidy Coleman had three strikeouts on the day while teammate Chelsea Velovich had seven strikeouts.
In game two Saturday afternoon against the Spartans, USD fell 5-0. USD recorded seven hits against SJSU. Jenny Lahitte worked 5.1 innings striking out seven batters while Kaitlin Healy recorded two strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work.
The Toreros return for the final day of the Eller Media Stadium Classic when they take on the University of Kansas Jayhawks in the 12:15 p.m. game.
